Gerrans conquers Battle of Buninyong

The 2012 Mars Cycling Australia Road National Championships from January 5 to 10 was truly an exceptional event showcasing the Ballarat region and the sport of cycling.

The event has further enhanced Ballarat's repute as the home of Australian cycling, this year boasting the strongest ever all-Australian field including seven former champions, attracting record crowds and for the first time a live television broadcast powered by Subaru delivered nation-wide exposure of Sunday's road race.

Along the crowd-lined roads of Buninyong, Australia's new road race champions were crowned now having the honour of wearing the coveted green and gold jersey throughout the 2012 European season.

GreenEDGE's Simon Gerrans, 31, was crowned Australian Road Race champion after a thrilling elite men's road race on Sunday January 8.

In a spectacular solo victory on Saturday, Amanda Spratt delivered a national championship title for GreenEDGE-AIS claiming the elite women's crown.

Off to a strong start in their debut season, Australia's first ever WorldTour team GreenEDGE collected six national champion crowns in total.
